What To Expect From Our Massage Professionals

How To Become A Mobile Massage Therapist | Mobile Massage Business | PrettyGirlMishaTV

Your highly skilled Massage Therapist will arrive at the scheduled appointment time. They will have everything needed to provide you with a great massage. Our appointment time is the time the Therapist will arrive, sometimes a little early. It will take the therapist about 10-15 minutes to get setup, and additionally to break down. With this in mind, we ask that you plan an additional 20-30 minutes for set up and break down. We do not charge any additional fee nor take time away from the massage. If you would like to start the massage at a specific time please let us know, so we can arrive accordingly.

After they set up they will consult with you so they can tailor the massage to your needs. Then they will leave the room while you disrobe to your comfort level and get comfortable on the table, underneath the top sheet. During your massage, professional boundaries are maintained all times, including using proper draping with a sheet.

Once your massage has ended, they will leave the room so you can comfortably get dressed. After which, they will pack up their stuff and leave. You can sit and relax. Or you can get back to doing what you need to do.

Massage Therapist Job Description: What Youll Do

Its an exciting time to begin a career in massage therapy. Not only have the job opportunities for massage therapists rapidly expanded, but the types of workplaces have as well. Massage therapy jobs are available in franchises, fitness centers, spas, resorts, and with self-employment, but careers are also growing in a variety of healthcare settings.

Ive seen an explosion in the field, says Taffie Lewis, director of membership outreach at Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals , a national massage therapy association. Massage has become mainstream. More and more consumers are using massage through franchise memberships on a regular basis and making massage a part of their lifestyle.

In the last decade, massage therapy has gained traction as a legitimate adjunct to traditional medical services.

In the last decade, massage therapy has also gained traction as a legitimate adjunct to traditional medical services, adds Lisa McNeil, M. Ed, CFSS-M, a licensed massage therapist at the Wisconsin-based Momentum Movement Clinic, who also provides manual therapy for U.S. Olympic team athletes and consults for wellness clinics and massage programs.

As a result, massage therapy training programs attract a variety ofstudents from all different backgrounds.

But the core reason people most often choose this career isbecause they want to make a difference, Lewis explains. There are so many studies showing that massagecan help our human condition far beyond relaxation.

Is The School Accredited

In terms of accreditation and program excellence, massage therapy programs are not equal. Youll want to attend a massage therapy program that meets official standards established within the massage therapy profession. Be sure the school you choose is accredited by the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation .

The massage therapy program at NWHSU, for example, actually adheres to a higher standard of education with its dual accreditation statusfrom both COMTA and the Higher Learning Commission, which is the same governing body that accredits institutions such as the University of Minnesota.

NWHSU is the only massage therapy institution in the state with this dual accreditation.

Watch Dr. Dale Healey, Dean of the College of Health and Wellness, explain the significance of this unique distinction.

Where Might You Work

Massage therapists work in a variety of environments including retail spaces, medical offices, long-term care facilities, independent offices, spas, and private resorts. As a new massage therapist, you might start out working for a massage company in a retail space where you are offered an hourly rate plus tips. These jobs are often low-paid, but they offer a good starting point.

While working in a retail massage shop, massage therapists could find work with a chiropractic office, medical clinic, or long-term care facility. These settings allow massage therapists to work with patients who are in dire need of help and healing. Many massage therapists feel that a strictly clinical or medical setting is their calling and even springboard from these clinics to work as a physical therapist or elsewhere in the medical community.

On the other hand, massage therapists can decide to set up a private practice. Many massage therapists are attracted to the profession for this reason. Massage therapists love being able to make their own schedule, find their own clients, and build a totally unique, individual practice.

Finally, massage therapists can also seek work in a spa or resort. Many new massage therapists find this alluring and so take their licenses to exotic locales such as the Bahamas, find work on cruise ships, or seek work in a Hawaiian resort.

How We Learned About Massage Therapy

Guide On How To Become A Traveling Massage Therapist ...

We were based in Vietnam around that time when we had planned to go to India to study and become certified yoga teachers. I really wanted to learn how to do massages for personal practice until we met travelling hippies who were making enough money to thrive from massages alone.

When we were in India, we learned about Ayurveda an authentic Indian healing. Its completely different and it sounds more exotic than any other Asian massages and we really liked it! Thats when we finally decided to go to Rishikesh and study to become certified massage therapists. We paid 200 USD each for a one-week intensive course. It was an amazing experience. The training was very comprehensive but we needed to practice to perfect the craft with real customers.
