Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa is on Route 7. A franchise operation, it’s owned by Rob and , who have another spa in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
“I always wanted a business of my own,” said Rob Durr. “With our son starting at Ithaca College this fall, Marianne and I had the time to invest.”
Durr said Hand & Stone’s philosophy fit perfectly with the couple.
“You’re selling relaxation. What could be better,” Durr said. “It’s what we all need, and taking a holistic approach to your health is on everyone’s radar.”
Durr likes the fact that Hand & Stone makes spa care “affordable.” An introductory one-hour massage is $49.95, as is a classic facial. A full body hot stone massage is $69.95 as an introductory offering.
Membership is on a month-to-month basis at $59.95 a month, with either a one-hour massage or facial to choose from. Additional services are at a reduced rate.
Karna Pfeiffer, of La Grange, N.Y., has been a customer at the Durr’s Poughkeepsie spa since February.
“I love it,” Pfeiffer said. “Back in January, I decided to start doing something for myself. I have three kids, a husband, a dog and a job. I needed this.”
