The Lauterstein-Conway Massage School offers basic and advanced programs. Students may complete the 500-hour basic course and then complete an additional 250 hours of advanced clinical studies. Lauterstein-Conway has been assigned a testing code by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. Along with the state-mandated courses, students take classes teaching trigger point palpation and deactivation, myofascial therapy, lymphatic drainage, sports massage, and therapeutic techniques for special populations.

The massage therapy program offered by ACC combines classroom lectures with hands-on learning in a lab setting and a massage internship. Students will acquire knowledge and skills to take the TDLR exam for licensure as a massage therapist and qualify for entry-level positions in salons, spas, and other settings. Students will learn how to assess soft tissue condition, joint quality and range of motion, develop and propose specific massage treatment plans, use complementary treatments such as infrared lamps, wet compresses and whirlpool baths, and prepare and blend oils for use in therapeutic massages. Course modules include fundamentals, health and hygiene, anatomy and physiology for massage, hydrotherapy, pathology for massage, business practices and professional ethics, kinesiology for massage, internship for massage therapy. Graduates must pass the required exams and apply to TDLR to practice as a massage therapist in the state.

Help ACCs massage therapy interns transition from pupil to practitioner by booking an appointment at Highland Business Center  May 25 through June 25. One-hour massages are $25 90-minute appointments are $37.
This is a chance for the community to see the quality of students graduating from ACCs Academy of Massage Therapy, says Alex Matthews, healthcare programs coordinator. Many clients have told us the students provide better services than therapists who have been in the profession for 10 years.
To make an appointment, call 223.7541. Appointments are available Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Massages are conducted in a supervised clinical setting and are offered to students, employees, and the community.
Continuing Educations Academy of Massage Therapy is in its 11th year.
