We are the Leadership Development Committee , writing to call your attention to the Alliances 2022 election. The election begins as soon as you receive this email it is occurring online rather than from the floor of the Educational Congress, as there is no in-person congress this year. Instructions follow below. The voting deadline for the 2022 elections is August 22, 2021.
In 2023, the election will again be face-to-face at the Biennial Educational Congress in Austin.

The Educational Congress is hosted by the Alliance for Massage Therapy Education. Our mission is to serve as an independent voice, advocate, and resource for the massage therapy and bodywork education community.
Our 2021 Virtual Conference will provide opportunities to become informed about critical issues affecting our industry, gather information on elevating standards of excellence, learn teaching skills, and network with other educators.
The AFMTE Conference Planning Committee invites you to complete our presenter application for consideration to present at the 2021 Educational Congress. Please note our audience is schools and their administrators, faculty, CE providers, and allied industry partners. The Alliance is most interested in education that embraces our members and industry stakeholders.
Since the Alliance does not offer technique classes at the conference please do not submit an application on how to execute techniques of any modality, although presentations on how to teach a particular subject are encouraged. Past breakout sessions have included a variety of topics in a 2-3 hour format. Topic suggestions include:

MK Brennan
LDC Statement:
Talk about a broad skillset! A retired massage therapist and RN, MK Brennan is a published poet and oversees the finances for the Alliance. It seems she juggles too, evidenced by the many roles MK has taken on through her first term on the board. Currently the Treasurer, an Executive Committee member, liaison to the LDC, and formerly chair of the Governance and Strategic Planning Committees, MK has been a stabilizing force for the Alliance through the many challenges pandemic and otherwise that the organization has faced in the past few years. Her experience as president of the Society 4 Oncology Massage and the National AMTA speaks to organizational and financial expertise that is so vital to the Alliance board. The LDC asks members to elect MK to a second 3-year term so she can continue her superb service to the Alliance.

Alliance For Massage Therapy Education Seeks Nominations For 2014 Educators Of The Year Award
The Alliance for Massage Therapy Education, in collaboration with Biofreeze and Bon Vital, is now accepting applications for its 2014 Educators of the Year awards. Two awards will be given: one for a teacher in a school setting and one for a continuing education provider.
The Alliance for Massage Therapy Education recently published its Core Competencies for Massage Therapy Teachers document as part of its National Teacher Education Standards Project. This document includes 10 standards, each of which describe the knowledge, skills and attitudes that form the basis for effective and successful teaching.
As part of this, the AFMTE has also established the Educators of the Year Award . This award honors excellence in massage and bodywork education and serves to foster a culture that supports raising the standards of excellence in massage and bodywork education. The recipients are chosen based on their experience, teacher training taken and how well they meet the core competency standards.
Each nominee is required to complete an application and return it on or before May 31, 2014. Educators can directly apply or be nominated by a colleague. Winners will be announced and contacted directly on July 15, 2014.

Educational Resource Directory For Massage Therapy Teachers
The Teachers Education Standards Project developed guidelines for the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to be a quality provider of massage therapy education. Meeting these standards will require time, training and access to resources. The Alliance for Massage Therapy Education has provided a searchable database of educational resources that massage teachers can utilize to help them achieve competency in the NTESP standards. This database of resources has been compiled by a group of massage therapy education professionals. A variety of media have been included that relate to each of the NTESP standards.

Massage & Bodywork Educator Certification
The AFMTE Educator Certification Program is currently a voluntary portfolio review process through which educators can demonstrate they have achieved proficiency in the Core Competencies for Massage Therapy Teachers. The portfolio review process allows experienced educators to become certified without having to go through a formal teacher training process. The official credential earned through the process is Certified Massage and Bodywork Educator.

The AFMTE provides a national, voluntary certification program to individuals who wish to exemplify the highest excellence as educators of massage and bodywork. AFMTE certified educators integrate theory and practice of teaching, learning, and assessment for adult student learners in a somatic-based curriculum. They build engaging and self-motivated learning environments that address varied patterns of student development and make central concepts, tools of inquiry, and subject matter accessible to all learners.
This certification has a three year renewal, requiring a minimum of nine CE credit hours concentrated in the areas of teaching and learning.
