Q. How do I know if a class or workshop is approved by AMTA?

Responsible sponsorship includes colleges and universities massage schools, workshop programs, AMTA sponsored educational events , and home study courses. What Is A Ceu

One Continuing Education Unit is equal to 10 hours of continuing education. The state of Washington and AMTA require Hours of education, not Units. If a class or workshop states that it offers 5 CEUs, then that class or workshop should be a total of 50 hours. If it is not 50 hours, but only 5 hours, then you would receive .5 CEUs, or 5 hours of continuing education.

Introduction To Visceral And Abdominal Massage

Advanced Training in Medical Massage Therapy

The viscera are at the very core of our body, and are, along with our nervous system, a primary source of life. They are at the center of our structure, our emotions, our biochemistry, and our life energy. There are over 500 million neurons in the belly , and our enteric nervous system is a primary source of our intuition and “gut” feelings.

When we are anxious or distressed, our natural instinct is to protect our soft underbelly and “stuff” emotions there, causing multilayered problems throughout the body. The smooth muscles of the gut contract, pulling on the surrounding mesentery and fascia, causing not only gut pain, but back pain. In addition, surgery can create adhesions and multi-directional disruptions in the abdominal fascia and musculature. It is ironic that this vital healing area is often overlooked in massage.

The sensitivity and vulnerability of the belly is precisely why it is so receptive to safe, calming, and nourishing touch. We can soothe the enteric nervous system and the soft underbelly, sending waves of deep relaxation throughout the entire body. We can relax the smooth muscles of the intestines, which reduces pain, improves digestive function, and eases the fascial pull in the back and other areas of the body. We can sometimes separate post-surgical adhesions, creating balance and increased ease of movement at the very core of the body.

Getting Started With Bellevue Massage School

If the school attended is not on the “blacklist”, the process can proceed. In order for Bellevue Massage School to evaluate a therapists transcript, they must pay the evaluation fee of $75. That $75, should the therapist decide to work with BMS is deducted from future fees.

When evaluating transcripts, one of two situations will exist:

    • The therapist will either meet or exceed the standards of Bellevue Massage Schools Approved Transfer Student Program
    • The therapist will NOT meet the standards of Bellevue Massage Schools Approved Transfer Student Program

In case #1, the therapist will have graduated from a program that was at least 24 weeks in length, and fulfilled the following hourly 625 hr requirements:

    90 Hours – Anatomy & Physiology 60 Hours – Kinesiology 70 Hours – Pathology 260 Hours – Massage Theory & Practice 50 Hours – Student Clinic 55 Hours – Business & Clinical Practices 40 Hours – Ethics

If in either case a students practical massage is deemed unfit to proceed, further hours of massage therapy training in our “Student Clinic” will become mandatory for graduation. Fees will be determined on a case by case basis if this step becomes necessary.

When a student fulfills the necessary educational and practical massage requirements, they now “graduate” from Bellevue Massage School.

The following steps are also necessary for the student to complete in order to receive their Washington State LMT license:
