Do Your Initial Research
Start your employment searchby looking through the help wanted sections in trade journals and online jobposting sites. I did an internet search by typing in massage therapy jobs andfound numerous job banksmany of which allow you to search by city or state.
One national site listedalmost 9,000 job openings. When I added my city to the search site, the linkswere still mainly job banks, but they were filtered to local job openings.
The larger spas will mostlikely have online employment applications through their websites. If the oneswhere you want to work dont have that option, contact them directly and askthem about their job application process for hiring massage therapists.
You can also contact thelocal franchiseswhich are frequently looking for new employeesto inquireabout their openings and their application process.
Check with local massageschools to find out if they have any job postings or job fair events coming up.Contact school faculty and alumni to see if they have any openings in theirpractices. If youre unable to get a list, then perhaps you can write aposition wanted post in alumni social media groups.
You can also post your resumeon professional online bulletin boards. Be sure to keep your LinkedIn profileupdated.
Also, its OK to remindpeople about your request as long as you dont do it more than once a week.Remember, quite often its who you know that gets you the joband it only takesone person.

You can easily find the number of the business because you can Google, Massage Addict, Charlottetown, PE
Here are the results:
Youll notice that the phone number to the business is prominently displayed.
However, its very important that you find out the name of the owner or whoever is hiring, so you can ask for them directly.
If you dont see their name listed on any of the hiring ads, you can usually get it by Googling: Massage Addict Owner, Charlottetown, PEI.
Sure enough, the search results came up with a press release on the first page of Google results that had the name of the owner on it.

Fifteen Years Ago The Numberof Actual Job Opportunities For Massage Therapists Was Limited And Thoseworking As Employees Often Complained About The Amount Of Time They Sat Aroundbecause Their Schedule Had Huge Gaps
That has changed.
Massage therapy is a strongcareer field. According to the Bureau ofLabor Statistics, the massage industry will add more than 42,000 jobsbetween 2016 and 2026, growing at 25% or much faster than average.
There are numerousavailable jobs, and most places that hire massage therapists keep theirtherapists booked. While a large number of therapists maintain a part-timeprivate practice in addition to a job, many therapists are fully booked attheir place of employment and have no desire to market and operate their ownbusiness.
According to the Bureau ofLabor Statistics, there were over 160,000 paid massage therapy positions in2016 and the median per-hour rate was $19.92, or $41,420 per year.
You have to be cautious inlooking at statistics like this. For instance, that $19.92 per hour might below, as it does not include non-reported tips and benefits, and the yearly paywas calculated by multiplying the hourly pay by the number of hours in atypical full-time job . Yet, most therapists do between 15 to 25 hoursof hands-on work per week. Also, I suspect that a high percentage of those160,000 jobs are part-time.
The main employers of massagetherapists are massage therapy franchises , spas, hotels and medical practices. Unfortunately, sometherapists working in the latter venues are often independentcontractors and not employees.

Hire Licensed Massage Therapists
Whether your clients are experiencing a sore back, pain in their shoulders or neck area, or just looking to stretch out and relax, massage therapy can offer many benefits.
Hiring a licensed massage therapist begins with identifying the requirements of massage therapy in the state where the clinic or business is practicing. Requirements may vary from state to state. To be sure, hiring managers should double-check the licensing laws and regulations before creating a job description.
A job description sets the tone for the recruitment process. It is the first point of communication between candidates and the hiring medical facility, clinic, or business. Create a job description that is clear, concise, and detailed. Are you looking for candidates who live in a specific area? What is the schedule? Is prior experience required? Outline the responsibilities and requirements clearly. Keep in mind that the job description is more than just a list of expectations. Make sure to highlight what you can offer. Doing this can surely help in making your job announcement stand out.
Additionally, hiring managers should be clear about the schedule, the number of hours, and location. Depending on the need, licensed massage therapists may work in different settings such as clinics, healthcare facilities, or business.

Making The Difficult Decision To Terminate
Although nobody really wants to think about terminating an employee, letting a therapist go may be necessary at some point. Both Brooks and Boden agree, no matter the size of your practice, there are certain things that an employer will just not be able to live with. For us, explains Boden, its low integrity or simply not caring about their work.
Brooks is more pointed in her expectations. When a therapist is not pulling their weight, whether its folding laundry, completing chart notes or collecting copays, its time to start thinking about termination, she says. Giving poor quality massages or doing something that undermines your clinic culture are also grounds for immediate termination.
Remember, advises Brooks, your decision is about business, not a personal judgment of the therapist. Another employee I consider for termination is the sweet employee you love but has the lowest retention rate and no matter how many new clients you bring in, they just dont come back, she says. In other words, you can love the person but not the quality of work they do in your practice.
Brooks also believes in the value of communication.I find that telling the therapist what needs to improve is step one. Show them how to do it is step two, she says.Communicating with and working with your employee and showing them how to meet your expectations can often solve the issue.

Does A Massage Therapist Need To Enter My Home
Many massage therapists operate their businesses out of their own homes, though some offer mobile massages and come to your home. You should ask the massage therapist where they typically operate and if they are making any special accommodations to better observe the CDCs guidelines for social distancing.
If you must cancel or delay your massage therapy appointment due to COVID-19, consider asking the therapist if they can offer massage techniques or lessons via video chat, email or some other digital format. You can also ask if it’s possible to buy gift cards that can be used at a later time.

Usually, massage therapists need to have at least 500 hours of training under their belts before they can be hired for massage careers. When a potential employee applies for a position with you, look into their massage therapy program. Is it legitimate? Does it have a good reputation? Have you hired people from that school or program before? And are they licensed to practice? Make sure you can easily determine the answers to all of these questions before making a hiring decision.

Do Deep Tissue Massages Work
Deep tissue massage not only feels fabulous, it can provide results. The massage technique targets deeper layers of muscle and your connective tissue. For its ability to stimulate those deeper muscles, deep tissue massage is commonly used during recuperation from sports-related and other injuries, according to the Mayo Clinic. Deep tissue massage has been proved to reduce high blood pressure and a range of other ailments. Deep tissue and other types of massage are frequently used for relieving stress, managing pain, breaking down scar tissue, relieving muscle tension and improving health. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health cites the following as health conditions for which that deep tissue massage can provide relief:
- Chronic low back pain, chronic neck pain, and osteoarthritis of the knee
- Labor pains
The proper deep tissue massage may also benefit preterm infant health. Cancer patients may experience reduced pain, increased relaxation, and improved mood.

Can I Use Digital Payments To Pay For A Massage
Many massage therapists accept digital payments through Venmo, Apple Pay, PayPal, Venmo, Square Cash, Zelle and other online platforms. Even businesses that do not typically accept digital payments may be changing their methods to practice social distancing. Just check with your massage therapist before the appointment to see how they handle payments.
Finding The Right Massage Therapist
For Brooks, skill is almost everything. I find that the success of a business is directly correlated with the skill level of the staff, she says. Hiring skilled therapists is by far the No.1 factor in whether or not their schedules will stay full. I can market and bring people into my business all day, but if therapists are not retaining them, I have a problem.
You also need to seriously consider the work environment and how well a potential employee will fit into the current culture. Successful hiring is all about fit, Boden explains. It doesnt do either party any good if our expectations do not match, so its important to be very thorough in the interview in order to make sure that it is a right fit for both. For Boden, customer service is extremely important, and so finding a massage therapist who is engaged in customer service is absolutely necessary.
Brooks agrees. Think about how they will get along with your other staff and how they will treat your clients, she says. Remember, who you hire reflects back on you and your business, so ask yourself, Do I want this person representing me?
According to Boden, the bigger consideration is determining what kind of employee a person will be. How they answer questions during an interviewas well as the references they provideshould give you a good idea of if theyll fit your expectations.

Test The Massage Therapists
You need to be certain that whoever you hire will do an excellent job massaging your clients. Your interviewees should show up ready to give a massage and demonstrate their style. That means they come in dressed appropriately as a masseuse and are comfortable when they give a massage to you or the interviewer.
Companies That Hire Massage Therapists
Whether you are massage therapists with years of experience, or just beginning your career, employment options abound. The number of adults receiving massage therapy has more than tripled in the last decade and the demand for massage services is booming. That means massage therapists now have more choice than ever when it comes to deciding who to work for.
