Meet Dora Not The Explorer
When researching a Colorado massage license, you will see DORA everywhere. DORA is the Department of Regulatory Agencies in Colorado. They help regulate everything, from boxing officials to medical physicians in the state.
DORA is divided into a few divisions, like the Division of Professions and Occupations. The mission of the Division of Professions and Occupations is public protection through effective licensure and enforcement. It is within the Division of Professions and Occupations where you will find many health professional boards, such as the Board of Massage Therapy.
The Board of Massage was created through an act of the legislature, giving them the power to make rules about massage in the state. The goal of these laws and rules is to ensure the public has access to qualified, competent, and ethical massage therapists.
I know you do not want to read the laws and rules now, so lets keep going and I will keep going and cover some of the highlights and requirements.

Applicants With Criminal Convictions
If you have ever been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor or pleaded guilty or no contest to any in-state, out-of-state or federal criminal offense, you must provide a completed Criminal History Questionnaire along with your application materials.
The department will conduct a criminal history background check, including fingerprinting, on all persons who apply for or renew a massage license. Criminal convictions are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Licenses may be denied based on the nature of the conviction and how long prior to the application the conviction occurred. Depending on your criminal history, a review can take from one to six weeks to complete.
Individuals may request TDLR review their criminal background before actually applying for a license. TDLR uses the same process for this pre-application evaluation as the process described below. See the Criminal History Evaluation Letter page for more information.
Please see the Guidelines for License Applicants with Criminal Convictions, which describe the process that TDLR uses to determine whether a criminal conviction renders an applicant an unsuitable candidate for the license, or whether a conviction warrants revocation or suspension of a license previously granted.

Dont Wait Until You Move To Begin The Process
It is best to plan your professional move ahead of time, or you may find yourself sitting in Florida waiting and waiting for your license to arrive. When things go smoothly, the entire process takes 3-6 weeks.
This means you will need to contact your school, state, and exam administrators. They will need to forward all of your scores, transcripts, and certificates to the Board office without being lost. You will also have to complete a background check and a course on the laws and rules concerning massage in Florida. Lots of room for errors along the way.
In order to keep your massage income flowing and avoid delays, I suggest you start the process as soon as possible. Once you apply, you have an entire year to submit your supporting materials to the board office. After the board office receives all of your supporting materials, they will issue your license. If you do not get everything to the board in one year, you will need to reapply.
