How To Become A Massage Therapist In Wisconsin

Clinical Practice Guidelines For Low Back Pain

Relaxation Tips from Licensed Massage Therapist | Osceola Medical Center

About the Course

Participants in this video course will be introduced to the current evidence-based approach to management of low back pain using Clinical Practice Guidelines from the Orthopedic Physical Therapy Section of the American Physical Therapy Association with clinical reasoning. As payers and medical practitioners increasingly depend on evidence-based Guidelines, clinicians must utilize published recommendations when selecting examination tools and designing therapeutic programs to direct functional outcomes and to optimize documentation for reimbursement. CPGs are intended to complement the clinical reasoning process of clinicians, not to provide a mandated protocol for making decisions about patient management. Understand the terminology and recommendations used in the CPG for low back pain. Select the proper impairment categories for your patients with low back pain for a more accurate match to their medical diagnosis, and choose recommended interventions to promote functional outcomes. Recognize what intervention types to utilize for specific impairment categories based on current evidence to successfully address low back pain and its related limitations.

What To Ask Massage Therapist Programs

Before you pick a massage therapy school, there are some important questions that you need to ask about the programs you are considering. As previously mentioned, the location of the school is important, particularly if you will be commuting to classes from Madison WI. And of course the total cost, including tuition, books and all training materials will also be an important factor. But beyond those basic qualifications, following are some questions you should ask so that you have all of the facts before enrolling in a massage therapy degree program.

Can I Study Massage Therapy Online

There are massage therapist school online options, but they dont include the hands-on training youd get from an in-person school. Since massage therapy is a hands-on practice, many massage therapy students prefer being able to get real-time feedback on massage therapy techniques from an experienced instructor.

Also, consider that depending on your states licensing requirements, you may be required to attend an accredited massage therapy school. Not all online massage therapy schools are accredited. That means you could waste time and money attending one if your goal is to become a licensed massage therapist.

Massage Therapist Education Requirements

Most schools offering massage therapy require that the enrollee have a high school diploma or its equivalent to qualify. Programs can range in length from several months for a Certificate or a Diploma to as long as two years for an Associates Degree. The lengths of the programs will also vary by State based on the number of hours required for licensing. Another factor that may also influence the program length is whether classes are offered in Madison WI during the day or in the evening. Also, an Associate Degree in Massage Therapy may have general education requirements and are often transferable into a related Bachelors Degree Program. Once you have received your Certificate or Degree, the education does not end there. The amount and type of continuing education you will need to complete will depend on the State where you are licensed. Some states require both a certain number of hours of continuing education as well as specific education in subjects such as HIPAA compliance or ethics.

How To Become A Certified Animal Massage Therapist In Wisconsin

In recent years, veterinary medicine has begun to adopt some of the same natural and holistic approaches that have made their way into human health care. Some practitioners and pet owners alike have come to believe massage has therapeutic uses on animals and can be an effective part of an overall veterinary treatment. Although some states require animal massage therapists to hold certifications or licenses, Wisconsin allows anyone to provide massage under the direct supervision of a licensed veterinarian. However, those who want training can enroll in educational programs.

Enroll in one of Wisconsin’s three certified animal massage schools. Anam Cara School of Equine Massage deals exclusively in treatments for horses and includes both traditional massage as well as energy-focused approaches such as reiki. The Blue Sky Education Foundation and the Healing Oasis Wellness Center offer a variety of techniques including spinal manipulation and pain relief treatments.

Attend local chapter meetings of the American Veterinary Medicine Association to meet vets in your area that include massage as part of their practice or who may be interested in adding it. Because you must associate with a veterinarian to practice animal massage, finding the practitioner is critical to your career.
